GFDD Presents Los Fabulosos Ma’ Mejores in Camden
Friday October 6th, 2017New York – In its latest rendition of the Dominican Film Showcase, the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) presented school children along with their parents at McGraw Mastery School in Camden, NJ to Carlos Manuel Plasencia’s Los Fabulosos Ma’ Mejores (2015).
The film made history as the first baseball-focused youth comedy film in the Dominican Republic, and counts on performances from a diverse cast of under 14-year-olds and recognized screen actors. It tells the story of a ragtag baseball team who, along with their eccentric coach, try to qualify for the first Dominican Little League Baseball Tournament.
For the screening, GFDD’s team was supported by Carmen Ubarri and Mildred Rojas, McGraw Mastery School staff members. And in a very special appearance, Carlos Manuel Plasencia made himself available to talk with the audience about their favorite parts of the film and answer their questions following the showing.
The event was full of fun, laughter, engaging conversations, and was certainly a memorable occasion for all who were present. Through the screening and following reception, GFDD staff were able to talk with attending children and adults about current initiatives and the organization’s community outreach programs.
To close the event, Yamile Eusebio Paulino, acting co-executive director of GFDD entrusted Mrs. Ubarri with copies of GFDD’s key publications: All Things Dominican, New Perspectives: Dominican Republic, and the Dominican Republic Encyclopedic Dictionary of the Environment. The publications will be placed in the school library for the consultation of students, teachers, and parents.

The Dominican Film Showcase presents, shares, and celebrates the stories, characters and history of the Dominican Republic with an international audience.
