GFDD is pleased to announce the launch of the first edition of the 2013 Dominican Film Showcase Program in New York City.

GFDD is pleased to announce the launch of the first edition of the 2013 Dominican Film Showcase Program in New York City. The event featuring screenings of El Rey de Najayo, Los Rostros Detras de las Muñecas and La Hija Natural will take place in City College of New York, CUNY on March 20-22, 2013.
During the three intense days of the program, GFDD will present the Dominican Republic under a constructive, positive and engaging light introducing it through the work of young Dominican filmmakers. The filmmakers and protagonists, who will be in attendance at their respective film, will take spectators for a behind the scenes delve into the topics and production. The films raise the question of drug cartels and drug lords, as in The King of Najayo / El Rey de Najayo (2012), bring to the fore the problem of parents and children, as in Love Child / La Hija Natural (2011), and depict the story about the Dominican and Latin American workers creating beautiful dolls that have delighted children and adults around the world, as in the documentary Los Rostros Detrás de las Muñecas.
In addition to the main feature films, GFDD’s own short film productions of Pico Duarte, Largo Enriquillo, and Globo Verde Winner Armando Larrauri’s film short Turning Our Backs to the Ocean will also be on view during the showcase.

By Partnering with the Cinema Studies Program at City College of New York, CUNY, GFDD presents a selection of Dominican Films to a wider audience within an environment that allows discussion, enhances social awareness and promotes constructive change. In addition to above scheduled events, GFDD will be partnering with the City College of New York on an ongoing basis throughout 2013 to screen a selection of the best films/documentaries/shorts including GFDD produced films.
About the Dominican Film Showcase
In an effort to endorse the burgeoning film industry of the Dominican Republic, Global Foundation for Democracy and Development created the initiative the Dominican Film Showcase, which seeks to share and celebrate the stories, history and talent of the Dominican Republic with international audiences, through spotlighting a sample of the best films produced in the Dominican Republic by Dominican filmmakers on Dominican topics.
