Thursday June 28th, 2018An enthusiastic audience packed Lincoln Center’s Walter Reade Theatre last Wednesday, July 25, 2018, to view the special presentation of the Dominican film “La Barbería,” Dominican film maker Waddys Jaquez’ first feature film. At the end of the presentation, the audience gave a prolonged standing ovation to the film. Thanks to the support of GFDD/Funglode’s Dominican Film Showcase and the Dominican Republic’s General Directorate of Film (DGCINE) both productions were screened in New York between March 30 and April 7, accompanied by their respective directors, José María Cabral and Yanillis Pérez. GFDD and FUNGLODE Dominican Film Showcase to Screen in New York’s Upper West Side
Tuesday April 29th, 2014GFDD and FUNGLODE will host a three day Dominican Film Showcase Program (DFS), May 21-23 2014 in partnership with Symphony Space, a performing arts center on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, New York. The opening night film on May 21 will showcase an action drama entitled “Biodegradable”, followed the next day, May 22, by an inspiring documentary “The Mountain”. The DFS will close on May 23 with Dominican musical “Sol Caribe”. The screenings, which each start at 6:30pm, present an opportunity to discuss the DR’s civic values, traditions, and music which are fast becoming part of the cultural composition of the US and other countries where Dominican populations are present.

Over a period of four days, hundreds of avid film-goers were treated to a sampling of some of the best films produced in the Dominican Republic, by Dominican filmmakers, about Dominican topics. New York Audience Meets with the Works of Acclaimed Dominican Film Directors at City College
Friday March 22nd, 2013The first edition of the 2013 Dominican Film Showcase Program came to greet the New York public in City College of New York, CUNY on March 21-22, 2013. During this interactive event, GFDD was pleased to present the Dominican Republic under a constructive and engaging light introducing it through the work of accomplished Dominican filmmakers, Fernando Baez, Leticia Tonos and Freddy Vargas. The featured films included; El Rey de Najayo, Los Rostros Detrás de las Muñecas and La Hija Natural. In addition, GFDD’s own short film productions of Pico Duarte, Lake Enriquillo: Environmental, Social and Scientific Implications and Globo Verde Winner Armando Larrauri’s film short Turning Our Backs to the Ocean were also on view during the showcase.
